John the Baptizer was arrested for calling out the kings, the emperors, and the religious elite, all who believed that their lofty positions of power and prestige could shield them from the truth of the gospel. As Jesus begins His ministry during this time, He proclaims that God's time has been fulfilled and that the kingdom of God is at hand, confirming John as a prophetic witness to the coming Messiah.
