When Should You Say No to Good Things? Hearing God's Voice in Luke 5:12-26

The crowds were growing and people were still sick, and Jesus kept slipping away to pray anyway.

Today in our daily Bible study we're in the middle of Luke 5, looking at two men who were locked out and the way Jesus dealt with the barrier before He dealt with the symptom. Then we come to one quiet sentence that I can't get past: as the need increased, Jesus withdrew more, not less. If you are serving yourself into the ground because the need is right in front of you, this one is for you.

Breathe in God's peace, and exhale your worries. This day is a gift, and
no matter what's ahead, you can trust that God is in control. His love is
steady. His plans for you are good. His presence goes before you. Let these
affirmations remind you to trust Him today.

Wednesday affirmations and Scripture

I am ruled by God's peace today.

Can You Obey God When You Think He’s Wrong? Hearing God’s Voice in Luke 5:1-11

Peter had fished all night and caught nothing. Then Jesus told him to go back out at the worst possible time of day.

Today in our daily Bible study we’re starting Luke 5, where Jesus begins calling His disciples. What strikes me about Peter is that he doesn’t believe it’s going to work, he says so out loud, and he lets the nets down anyway. If you’re waiting to feel sure before you obey, this one is for you, because trusting God rarely starts with certainty.

Hearing God in Luke:

Jesus said be quiet and come out, and it left.

Today we finish Luke 4 in Capernaum, where Jesus starts proving line by
line everything He claimed back in Nazareth. A man held by a demon walks out free. A woman burning with fever gets up and makes dinner. A whole town brings its sick and He touches them one at a time. We'll look at what first-century exorcism actually looked like, why Jesus refused to let the demon talk, and one correction worth hearing if you've ever been told your illness was spiritual.
