Mel: get your government documents in order! If you can, get an official copy of your birth certificate, get or update your passport, and CALL YOUR SENATOR and tell them to vote NO on this bullshit "Save America" act that's being pushed right now. The congressional switchboard is (202) 224-3121. This bill gets rid of mail-in voting, it requires people to register to vote IN PERSON, and they will have to provide "proof" of citizenship in which all names need to match up. So, a married woman who changed her name will not be able to register to vote if she doesn't also have official documents that verify that change (marriage certificate, divorce decree, name change declaration, etc.). This boils down to an effort to stop women and impoverished people from voting. And it's a sneaky poll tax because all these documents cost money.
