In the summer of 1789, the National Assembly of France, approves the Declaration of the Rights of Man. Lafayette drafted the original, with advice from Thomas Jefferson. This is the final Declaration, as approved by the National Assembly.

In late August of 1775, the Continental Siege of Boston keeps the British from moving in or out of the city by land. However, the British Navy controls the water. General Washington begins to commission ships to interdict merchant vessels trying to supply the British garrison in Boston. The first ship, the Hannah. Is commissioned on Aug. 24, 1775.
