Slovak lesson
1.    povedať, že (to say that)
Anton povedal, že príde neskôr. (Anthony said that he would come later.)
2.    napísať, že (to write that)
Musíš mi napísať, že si v poriadku. (You must write to me that you are okay.)
3.    myslieť, že (to think that)
Nemyslím, že máš pravdu. (I don’t think that you are right.)
4.    vedieť, že (to know that)
Je dobré vedieť, že si tu. (It is good to know that you are here.)
5.    veriť, že (to believe that)
Veríme, že tento zápas vyhráme. (We believe that we will win this match.)
6.    dúfať, že (to hope that)
Dúfajme, že zajtra bude svietiť slnko. (Let’s hope that the sun will shine tomorrow.)
7.    vidieť, že (to see that)
Je jasne vidieť, že máš veľkú radosť. (It is clearly visible that you have great joy.)
8.    počuť, že (to hear that)
Počuli sme, že Zuzana vyhrala preteky. (We heard that Zuzana won the race.)
9.   Myslím, že je to dobrý nápad. (I think it's a good idea.)
10. Lepšie raz vidieť, ako stokrát počuť. (Better to see something once than to hear about it a hundred times. / Seeing is believing.)
DIALOGUE
Anna: Ahoj, Mária. Počula si, že v múzeu je nová výstava? (Hi Maria. Have you heard that there is a new exhibition at the museum?)
Mária: Áno, bola som tam v sobotu. (Yes, I was there on Saturday.)
Anna: O čom je tá výstava? (What is the exhibition about?)
Mária: Jedným slovom povedané, o rádiu. (In one word, about radio.)
Anna: Oplatí sa tam ísť? (Is it worth going there?)
Mária: Určite. Výstava je veľmi zaujímavá. (Definitely. The exhibition is very interesting.)
Anna: Čo sa tam dá vidieť? (What can you see there?)
Mária: Staré vysielače a rádiá, staré fotografie a staré mikrofóny. (Old transmitters and radios, old photographs and old microphones.)
Anna: Mali tam aj nejaké staré nahrávky? (Did they have any old recordings there too?)
Mária: Samozrejme. Vysielali ich zo starého rádia. (Of course. They were broadcasting them on an old radio.)
Anna: Znie to zaujímavo. (It sounds interesting.)
Mária: Odporúčam ti to vidieť na vlastné oči. Vieš, ako sa hovorí: Lepšie raz vidieť, ako stokrát počuť. (I recommend you see it with your own eyes. You know what they say: Better to see once than hear a hundred times.)

In today's episode, you are going to learn more about some Slovak correlative conjunctions. You will also learn how to say “Like father, like son" in Slovak.
Slovak lesson
Common correlative pairs in Slovak include:
1.    buď… alebo (either… or)
     Buď pôjdeš, alebo zostaneš. (Either you go or you stay.)
2.    nielen… ale aj (not only… but also)
      Nielen že je múdry, ale je aj dobrý. (He is not only smart but also nice.)
3.    alebo … alebo (whether/either … or)
      Alebo to urobíš ty, alebo ja. (Either you do it, or I do it.)
4.    ani … ani (neither … nor)
     Nemá rád ani futbal, ani hokej. (He likes neither football nor hockey.) He     doesn't like neither football nor hockey.
     Nemám ani čas, ani peniaze. (I have neither time nor money.)
Note: Slovak requires a negative verb (nemám) when using ani... ani.
5.    aj … aj (both … and)
     Prišli aj mladí, aj starí. (Both young and old came.)
6.    či, či už… alebo (whether… or)
    Či už prší, alebo svieti slnko, vždy chodí pešo.
7.    radšej … než (rather … than)
     Radšej budem čítať knihu, než pozerať televíziu. (I would rather read a book than watch television.)
8.    taký … ako (as … as)
     Tvoj brat je taký vysoký ako ty. (Your brother is as tall as you.)
9.    taký … že (such … that)
     To bol taký nudný film, že som zaspala. (It was such a boring movie that I fell asleep.)
10. aký … taký (what … that / what kind … that kind)
    Aký otec, taký syn. (What kind of father, that kind of son. = Like father, like son.)

In today's episode, I’m talking about Slovak subordinating conjunctions. You will also learn how to say “When I feel like it“ in Slovak.
Slovak lesson
Some of the most common subordinating conjunctions are:
1. že (that)
    Povedal, že príde zajtra. (He said that he will come tomorrow.)
    Vedeli ste, že Slovensko je v strede Europy? (Did you know that Slovakia is in the center of Europe?)
2. aby (so that, in order to, with the aim of)
     Študujem, aby som urobil /-a skúšku. (I study so that I pass the exam.)
     Deti pijú mlieko, aby vyrástli. (Children drink milk so that they (to) grow up.)
3. pretože / lebo (because)
     Neprišiel, pretože bol chorý. (He didn’t come because he was sick.)
     Nejdeme do zahraničia, lebo nemáme peniaze. (We don't go abroad because we don't have money.)
4. keď (when) 
    Kým budeš, keď vyrastieš? (Who will you be when you grow up?)
     Keď budem veľká, budem učiteľka. (When I grow up, I will be a teacher.)
    Keď prídu hostia, pôjdeme do parku. (When the guests arrive, we will go to the      park.)
5. ak (if)
    Ak budeš mať čas, zavolaj mi. (If you have time, call me.)
    Zastav sa u nás po práci, ak máš čas. (Stop by after work if you have time.)
6. hoci / aj keď (although/even though)
     Hoci pršalo, išli sme von. (Although it was raining, we went out.)
       Aj keď bola unavená, knihu dočítala až do konca. (Even though she was tired, she read the book to the end.)
7. kým (while/until)
    Počkám, kým neprídeš. (I’ll wait until you come.)
    Kým deti spali, mama varila. (While the children slept, mom cooked.)
8. Keď budem mať chuť (When I feel like it)
    Prídem, keď budem mať chuť. (I'll come when I feel like it.)

1.    Kto veľa číta, veľa sa naučí. (Whoever (He/She) reads a lot learns a lot.)
2.    Nebo je také, akoby malo snežiť. (The sky looks as if it were about to snow.)
3.    Myslela som, že neprídete. (I thought that you wouldn't come.)
4.    Hľadám knihu, ktorú som dostala. (I am looking for the book that I got.)
5.    Každý ide tam, kde ho srdce ťahá. (Everyone goes where their heart takes them.)
6.    Stalo sa to vtedy, keď sme boli na dovolenke. (It happened while we were on vacation.)
7.    Zostanem doma, pretože som chorá. (I will stay at home because I am sick.)
8.    Videla som ho, ako bežal cez park. (I saw him as he was running through the park.)
9.    Viem, že prídu. (I know that they will come.) 
10. Ako si ustelieš, tak budeš spať. (In a manner / how you make your bed, so you will sleep.)
