A genuine treat for anyone in the least bit invested in all things Game Of Thrones and House Of The Dragon lore. Pip catches up with someone who is dealing with one of the tasks in recent times, which is showrunning a series with much expectation on its head. With past success and proven track record, turns out the hands it's in are very safe indeed, but nevertheless it is fascinating to hear how the whole thing is assembled and taken from writing room to screen. As you would expect, it takes a long time and there are no shortcuts, but what a pleasure in a time when so many shortcuts are made for us and the path is usually all about speed and quick results. So much goodness for the fans and appreciators in here, and those who are yet to begin their quest (god bless you!). As Ryan says, "We're not going to do the comfortable thing that you expect or want" - if that doesn't excite you, maybe House Of The Dragon isn't for you! ENJOY.

I say upfront and honest - basically it’s one where sentiments aren’t hinted at, and feelings and thoughts are addressed in a mature and adult manner. He and Pip are currently in Vancouver, Canada, in the midst of filming in some very airtight pandemic conditions. You can hear all about that, which of course branches out into how life is in Canada, viewing the pandemic from a different country, the attitudes in the US, race and the media, privilege, social media tone deafness, becoming a Twitter celeb (not as glamorous as it sounds), what re-Trump-ing says about you, Mike Bithell and the amazing North Star Rising project he and Pip guested on, auditions, gaming voiceovers, acting, and the many intricate nuances of invoking Bollywood. It’s a packed one and it’s great. Get yerself in a listening situation.

This week Pip is joined by Cornwall's finest and UK film making royalty MARK JENKIN!

A total gem of an episode here, whether you are a heavyweight devotee of Mark's film output or if this is the first time you're hearing about him. Mark's got many years in the game, and in an era where almost every single thing feels digital, his approach to film making is almost as aesthetically radical as it comes - using all analogue gear, and a truly unique attitude to post-sync sound too. This chat gets into many eras and processes, including the origins of Bait (2019) which stem back to decades ago, how to tour a film, making films for an audience of self, representing the working class in an honourable way, Cornwall stereotypes, falling in love with the film making process again via Super8 cameras, the music making process and how said sync work happens. Genuine good stuff for the films heads (and, as said, those not familiar - everyone will get something from this). Oh and just TRY not to incorporate the Cornish Affirmative into you daily parlance. You can't eat the view!

ROSE OF NEVADA is still showing in UK cinemas and on Monday 13 July will screen at BFI IMAX, Britain’s biggest screen, with a live score performed by The Cornish Sound Unit (Mark Jenkin and Dion Star).

On 24 August it will be released on BFI Blu-ray/DVD and streaming exclusively on BFI Player. A BFI Blu-ray box set, THE CORNISH TRILOGY, containing BAIT, ENYS MEN and ROSE OF NEVADA is released the same day.
