This special edition pays tribute to the records, DJs and unforgettable nights that helped define club culture throughout the late 1980s and 1990s. From the euphoric rise of House and Garage to the underground sounds that fuelled a generation, DD023 captures the spirit of a movement that changed dance music forever.

Featuring timeless classics and dancefloor anthems from Todd Terry, David Morales, Roger Sanchez, K-Klass, Inner City, A Guy Called Gerald, Derrick May, Larry Heard, Alison Limerick, Joe Smooth and many more, this mix is packed with the records that lit up Manchester's most famous club.

For me, this is where the story really begins. The Haçienda sound, the records, the culture and the energy of that era sparked my own love affair with dance music during the mid-to-late 1990s. Long before DJing, collecting records and creating mixes became a huge part of my life, these were the records and stories that inspired everything that followed.

Pulled from the archives, this mix has become something of a time capsule. Over the years it has grown into the most listened-to Dance Classics mix I've ever recorded, continuing to attract listeners who share a love for the golden era of House music and the enduring legacy of the Haçienda.

Every track has been carefully selected and mixed with love as a celebration of the records, the DJs and the dancefloor that changed everything.

Lisa Shaw’s I Can See It opens everything with pure silk. Miguel Migs wraps the vocal in deep sunset soul before Woolfy and Prins Thomas stretch the mood into something dreamlike and weightless with Making It Right. Then Joris Voorn’s Ryo glides in like neon reflections across wet city streets.

Delphi’s Blue Tuesday feels lonely in the most beautiful way possible, while Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas completely reimagine Swoon into a slow-burning cosmic spiral built for 4AM moments.

Peggy Gou and Maurice Fulton bring pure attitude with I Go, before Chilly’s For Your Love and Stinger J.’s Pretty Face inject that irresistible disco heat - sensual, loose, and dripping in groove.

Opening with the smooth luxury of Benny Santiago’s “Give Me the Night - Cielo Extended”, the mix glides into The Doobie Brothers’ “Long Train Runnin’”, Yacht Rock Revue’s “San Junipero”, Daryl Hall & John Oates’ “I Can’t Go for That” in the Pomo remix, Party Pupils’ “Never Too Much”, and Christopher Cross’ “Ride Like The Wind - Yacht House Mix” — all bringing that glossy, sunset-on-the-water energy.

Then the Latin fire rises. David Penn, DJ Chus & Dr. Kucho!’s “Esperanza” leads into Africanism & Salomão De Bahia’s “Cada Vez”, before two personal weapons take centre stage: The Funk Assassin – “Sabor En Tu Piel” and The Funk Assassin – “Di Mi Nombre (Spanglish Pop Soul Edit)”.
