In this dialogue I talk about how a rider’s belief systems can impede their progress or prevent them from expressing their highest potential as an athlete. This is quite a common presentation in my experience. Athletes and coaches often focus on training methods and get super granular on 4 x 4 or 3 x 8 but in reality, the barriers to performance are quite often more about how an athlete has been programmed or brainwashed to think about the sport or themselves.
Examples I elaborate on include the idea that more is always better, that the best and only way to be better is through more effort, that a coach is or should be omniscient, or the conflation of the athlete’s value as a human and their ability to ride a bike.
If any of these interest you or resonate, you might find this podcast interesting.

In this episode I unpack the upside and shadow side of three different ways to use a power meter.
As a pacing tool
As a motivator
To look at retrospective or futurespective data
I feel these perspectives are important as I think many riders in the sport are mis-using this technology.
If you listen to my podcast, you will know it is filled with unpopular opinions and alternative perspectives. Not for the sake of controversy or exhibitionism, but simply to think critically and speak with an honest opinion.
