Formula 1's already moving the other way. Their lead in communications has declared it so...that in a decade at most the sport won't only be de-electrified...but V8s would return. Cheaper engines and greater independence from major suppliers. Meanwhile Formula E's becoming faster and more capable of owning the electric side of single-seater racing.

With that in mind, I certainly feel like this could be a huge boost for Formula One...and if the manufacturers don't like it, they can either like it or lump it!

Two years ago, Carlos Sainz had Williams, Audi and Alpine waiting for his decision. Now the whole thing has flipped. Every realistic route away seems to depend on somebody else moving first. Audi's happy with its drivers, Aston Martin depends on Fernando Alonso, and as for Alpine? It's got plenty of other things to sort out, including its car...and then there's Checo to consider too.

Mercedes have won eight of eleven races and lead both championships. Lovely...except George Russell’s season has become a travelling collection of failures and exhaustion. The team HAS admitted several faults but we're left wondering this: has Mercedes built a fragile advantage or simply created the fastest car in Formula 1 with a few expensive problems still waiting to be solved...and they're running out of time. Russell and Antonelli look very close to a grid drop and Ferrari and McLaren are salivating!
