A killer working through the seven deadly sins, and a city where the rain never lets up. John, Westy and Matt open the case on David Fincher's grimy 1995 landmark, starting with the unlikely tale of how it reached the screen at all, including the admin blunder that accidentally handed cinema one of its darkest endings. Part 1 runs from the film's origins through Fincher clawing back after Alien 3 and a cast led by Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, before the case turns properly grim. We stop just short of the desert.
