The HoneyDew with Ryan Sickler

Comedian, actor, and American Ninja Warrior host Matt Iseman joins me this week on The HoneyDew to Highlight the Lowlights of leaving medicine for comedy, becoming a father at 55, and living with rheumatoid arthritis.

Matt talks about growing up with a father who became a world-renowned expert on tuberculosis and following in his footsteps by going to medical school and training in internal medicine.

He opens up about making the huge decision to walk away from medicine to pursue stand-up comedy and why he believes comedy comes from either “the hugs you got or the hugs you didn’t get.”

We also talk about Matt becoming a first-time father at 55, what that experience has meant to him, and how his perspective on life has changed.

Comedian Michael Blaustein joins me this week on The HoneyDew to Highlight the Lowlights of growing up surrounded by death, losing his baby sister to SIDS, and how those experiences shaped his views on family.

Michael shares what it was like having a mom who worked in hospice, including going with her at 2 a.m. to pronounce patients dead.

He also opens up about losing his baby sister to SIDS when she was just months old, the confusion of trying to process that kind of grief as a teenager, and how his family turned their loss into something meaningful by getting involved with a SIDS foundation to honor her memory.

Matt Mathews joins me this week on The HoneyDew to Highlight the Lowlights of family chaos, heartbreaking loss, and the journey to becoming his true self.

Matt shares what life was like in fourth grade when his mom, Rene, got into a fistfight with his teacher and the time she put hands on a Walmart greeter.

Matt also talks about receiving a collect call from his mom while she was in jail during his elementary school years, recounts the infamous story of Rene kicking in a sheriff’s door after discovering she’d been cheated on, and losing her when he was just 14 years old.

Matt also opens up about the woman who truly became his mom, Sheryl, how she changed his life, and the devastating loss of her to a sudden death years later.
