Dziady · The Full Story of the Slavic Halloween When the Dead Come to Supper · 3 Hour Sleep Story

Tonight there is a place set at the table for somebody who is not coming. The chair has been left empty on purpose, the bowl in front of it is full, and in a moment somebody is going to say a name out loud in a quiet room and mean it. This is Dziady, the night of the grandfathers, recorded in differing household forms across parts of the Slavic lands, and still kept in a few places tonight while you fall asleep.

The first of two Halloween specials that open Season Seven, the Slavic season. The stove that feeds the whole house. An early written account of these people, by a Byzantine secretary in the sixth century. The walk to the graves with bread wrapped in linen. The names said aloud at the head of the table, and the candle and morning dismissal in our pictured house. Told plainly and slowly, distinguishing recorded customs from the imagined house that carries the story.

Anzu and the Stolen Tablet of Destinies: The Full Story | 3 Hour Sleep Story

    16/10/2026 | 3 h
The voice you hear is the creator's own. He cloned it from recordings of his own voice, so every story is told in his voice. If you enjoy falling asleep to it, follow the show so each new story arrives on its own, and leave a rating on Apple Podcasts so other people can find it.

Anzu steals the Tablet of Destinies while its owner is in the bath, and that is the best opening of any story in Mesopotamian literature. The most powerful object in this whole world, the thing that makes whatever you say become true, goes out of the door in the talons of a lion headed eagle, and everything stops. Tonight is the theft, the three gods who said no, the young god who said yes, the arrows that turned back in the air, and the mountain. A slow, calm 3 hour sleep story to help you fall asleep and stay asleep.

Settle in, close your eyes, and let it drift over you. The pacing is slow, the voice is soft, and the music never spikes. You do not have to follow it. You do not have to remember any of it in the morning.

These are retellings drawn from the real tablets and the real history. Where the old stories turn toward fear or cruelty, we turn gently toward comfort, choosing the telling that serves a calm night. Where scholars disagree, the disagreement is said out loud rather than smoothed over.

Season Five of The Sleeping Almanac: Mesopotamia. Twelve nights.

Nergal and Ereshkigal is the story of the queen of the underworld, who never goes anywhere, and the one god who went down to her twice. Tonight is the banquet she could not attend, the minister who climbed the long stair, the god who would not stand up, the fourteen doorkeepers, the six days behind a shut door, the threat that emptied heaven, and an ending that is far gentler than it has any right to be. A slow, calm 3 hour sleep story to help you fall asleep and stay asleep.

Three hours of calm music from the world of Slavic myth, made to help you fall asleep and stay asleep through the whole night. A bonus for the quiet nights, the same music playing tonight on our live sleep stream, three hours with no talking at all.
Tonight is a winter night in the forest, a stove somewhere behind you, one gusli string touched and let ring over a low bowed drone, with wind over open snow underneath the whole time. Our Slavic season opens this month with two specials, and on Halloween night, Saturday October 31, the first of them, Dziady, plays live for eleven hours. Its twelve nights begin on Sunday, November 15.
The music is original to the show, made with AI music tools and mixed for sleep: no melody that swells, no percussion, nothing sudden.
If it helps you sleep, follow the show so each new story and each new night of music arrives on its own, and leave a rating on Apple Podcasts so other people can find it.

Acerca de The Sleeping Almanac: Sleep Stories for Adults from Myth and Fairy Tale
Three hour sleep stories for adults, from the fairy tales and myths you already know. Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, Sleeping Beauty, Robin Hood, Homer's Odyssey, and the old gods of the North and of Egypt, each retold in slow, calm narration made to be listened to as you fall asleep. The voice you hear is the creator's own. He cloned it from recordings of his own voice, so every story is told in his voice. If you enjoy falling asleep to it, follow the show so each new story arrives on its own, and leave a rating on Apple Podcasts so other people can find it. Each episode is researched, written, and narrated to drift over you rather than demand your attention. The pacing is slow. The music never spikes. The goal is the opposite of keeping you awake. Each season moves through a different story tradition: Norse mythology, Egyptian myth, the great fairy tales, the tales of 1001 Nights, Homer's Odyssey, the myths of ancient Mesopotamia, and the lost books of the Bible. New episodes every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday night, every one of them three hours long. The almanac is now a book. Norse Myths Retold for Sleep gathers twelve of the oldest stories, retold to be read in a low lamp until the page slips from your hand.
