This week, Drewby and Yergy head over to the UK to discuss the case of Marley and Elijah Thomas, two young boys who were drowned in a bathtub by their mother, Kara Alexander, after an evening of smoking "skunk," which is a catchall for strong cannabis strains. On December 16th, 2022, the two boys were found dead at their home on Cornwallis Road in Dagenham, East London. Their father, Selvin Thomas, became concerned after failing to reach Kara and went to the house, where he discovered the boys' bodies lying together in a bunk bed. Post-mortem examinations determined that Marley and Elijah died from either drowning or suffocation. During her trial at Kingston Crown Court, Kara denied the murders. She claimed she had put the boys in the bath and fell asleep, arguing that they had "accidentally" drowned. Prosecutors successfully dismantled this defense, proving the children could not have drowned accidentally at the same time and that she had deliberately held them underwater.

This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Philadelphia, PA, to discuss the case of 4-year-old Zya Singleton. On October 30th, 2019, emergency services responded to a home in Philadelphia's Fairmount neighborhood. Zya's guardian, Samiya Brown, claimed that the toddler had accidentally fallen out of a second-story window while playing with a cat. Zya was hospitalized in critical condition and tragically died from her injuries and a severe blood infection on November 3rd. Medical professionals and the city medical examiner quickly determined that the window-fall story was a lie. An autopsy revealed that Zya had endured years of horrific, systemic physical abuse. Her injuries included severe malnutrition, multiple broken bones, acid, cigarette, and thermal burns, human bite marks, as well as homemade stitches that Samiya had haphazardly sewn into Zya's skin, which ultimately led to sepsis. The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office described the tragedy as "potentially one of the worst cases of child abuse anyone has ever seen." Samiya was immediately arrested and denied bail. In May of 2022, she avoided a first-degree murder trial by pleading guilty to third-degree murder, endangering the welfare of a child, and possessing an instrument of crime. Zya’s biological mother, Jasmine Singleton, had voluntarily given custody of Zya to Samiya, who was a family friend and married to her stepbrother, around two years prior to the murder. Jasmine did so because she lacked the immediate financial means to care for her daughter and wanted to prevent Zya from entering the formal foster care system.

This week, Drewby and Yergy discuss two cases. The first is about a newborn baby named Jeremiah who was tragically found dead inside a construction site porta potty in Gretna, Louisiana. The child's mother, 37-year-old Lakesha Lemelle, was indicted for second-degree murder by a Jefferson Parish grand jury. It was determined at autopsy that baby Jeremiah was a full term, 7.2 pound infant who was born alive. His cause of death was listed as asphyxia due to drowning in raw sewage. The second story is about a little boy whose name we don't have, and that's because he made it out alive... But not before the new woman in his father's life (allegedly) attempted to burn his ear off with scalding water because she found him "ugly." As both cases have yet to go to trial, all parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Rensselaer, New York, to discuss the horrific case of Josefina "Josie" Cunningham, an adorable toddler who was raped and murdered by her mother's boyfriend, 34-year-old Robert Fisher. Between July 6th and 7th of 2023, Robert was babysitting 3-year-old Josie at her home on Broadway in Rensselaer. During this time, he crushed prescription medication and forced the child to drink it. While she was conscious, he brutally assaulted her. When the child's mother returned, she found Josie unresponsive and foaming at the mouth. Robert had heavily staged the crime scene, positioning the toddler on her back with her hands folded, and had aggressively used Clorox bleach wipes to scrub her face and body in an attempt to destroy DNA evidence. She scrubbed so hard, that the pigment was removed from her skin. Josie was rushed to Albany Medical Center Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her official cause of death was ruled as homicidal violence driven by acute internal trauma, lacerations, and acute drug intoxication.
