The Final Hours with Sarah Turney and Kourtney Nichole

Eighteen days after Keeshae Jacobs vanished, police searched an apartment a state over and found a bag on the floor. Inside were cell phones, a loose SIM card with photographs of her family on it, and one of her own missing-person fliers, folded underneath. It wasn't enough to charge anyone. It would be more than seven years before the man who rented that apartment said a word about Keeshae. And by then he was serving life in Florida for killing someone else, under an agreement that nothing he said could ever be used against him.

On the evening of September 26, 2016, 21-year-old Keeshae Jacobs left her mother's house in Richmond, Virginia in black basketball shorts, pink Nikes and a pink headscarf. She told her mother and brother she'd be back in the morning to make pancakes. A friend drove her to a red brick row house in Church Hill. Just after 11 p.m. she texted her mother that she'd made it there safely, and that she loved her. Her phone went dead the next morning. Her mother suspected one man. It would take years before investigators finally agreed.

To give thanks in November, join us for the special Homecoming limited series, where Vanessa Richardson brings you the story of someone who disappeared...and found their way back. Our first episode covers the kidnapping of 15-year-old Kara Robinson, who was abducted at gunpoint on June 24, 2002, from a friend's front yard outside Columbia, South Carolina, and held for eighteen hours in a stranger's apartment. Rather than shut down, she memorized everything: mail, serial numbers, doctor's names...and escaped the next morning by unscrewing her restraints with her teeth. The information she provided led investigators to Richard Marc Evonitz and closed three unsolved murders in Virginia.

Two months after Cindy Song vanished in 2001, investigators had no crime scene, no suspect, and no solid leads to pursue. What her family had was a fight with the department that took the original report. And that's where things stood until June 2003, when a man facing prison told detectives about a property a hundred and thirty miles away. What came out of that backyard made national news. But not in the way anyone had hoped.

On Halloween night 2001, 21-year-old Penn State senior Cindy Song went out dancing with two friends in State College, Pennsylvania. Just before 4 a.m., one of them dropped her off and watched her climb the stairs to her apartment. After that, she vanished. Inside, police found a pair of false eyelashes set down on the counter and her backpack with her cell phone still zipped inside — the only signs she ever made it home. Her keys, her wallet, her ID and her costume were gone. And the front door was locked from the outside.
