Al Madrasatu Al Umariyyah

You have probably recited "Qul huwa Allahu Ahad" (Surah al-Ikhlas) countless times. But what exactly does Al-Ahad mean? And if Allah is Al-Ahad, why does the Qur'an also call Him Al-Wahid? The difference between these two Names opens the door to understanding something much bigger: Tawheed itself.
Why is Surah Al-Ikhlas equal to a third of the Qur'an? Why does the Name Al-Wahid repeatedly appear alongside Al-Qahhar? What does Allah being One actually demand from your belief, your worship and your life? And why, on the Day of Resurrection, will there be nowhere else to turn?

You may have memorised Surah Al-Ma'un. You may have recited it hundreds of times.

The Surah begins with the one who denies the Day of Recompense: someone harsh towards the orphan and unconcerned about the poor.
Then comes a striking shift:
"So woe to those who pray…"
Why does a Surah describing someone who rejects the Hereafter suddenly turn to people who pray?
What connects Salah with the way you treat others? What does being distracted from prayer really mean? And could someone believe in the Hereafter, yet live in ways that resemble someone who does not?

Why does Allah allow the believers to be persecuted while their oppressors seem to grow stronger? Surah Al-Burooj gives an answer that is far more unsettling - and far more hopeful - than simply saying, "Be patient." The believers of the trench were tortured for one reason: they believed in Allah. Their enemies watched them burn. Yet right in the middle of this horrifying account, Allah describes Himself as Al-'Azeez, Al-Hameed - the Almighty, the One worthy of all praise.
Why would Allah mention His absolute power at the very moment the believers appear powerless?
